Once you reach your destination, you can take the compact, self-contained display unit with you and enjoy HP’s superb 3D street mapping in your car. The system comes with both a car mount AND yoke mount. Completely self-contained and completely pre-installed, there is nothing to “set up” and nothing to configure.
Add an optional XM WX receiver and the Travel Companion even gives you up-to-the-minute XM weather and airspace warnings. The completely wireless system feeds data to the Travel Companion by Bluetooth. The Travel Companion even lets you listen to XM audio channels while you monitor the weather (subscriptions required).
The first 12 Months of software and database updates are free. This includes the 28 Day Aeronautical Database, which updates airport, airspace, airway, frequency, and other information.

I bought this as a lower cost alternative to the Garmin 696. I have updated it to the latest software but it still will crash from time to time. I will be returning this and saving for the Garmin 696. It's just not reliable enough for me. Touch screen is extremely slow. It crashes when there is a lot of weather on the screen. You get a lot for the money but I want something that works all the time. The change fuel tanks and other warnings dont always work either. The airport diagrams have to be calibrated after you land. uggg

Very neat installation in the plane, not a bunch of wires. Clear screen. The pocket plates are great for orientation on approaches, especially good for training, since I am in the process of getting my instrument rating. The weather is very clear. For the money it is what I expected. The updates for the data base and pocket plates are very resonable.

The numbers can be difficult to read, ie. heading etc.

The background map of Hawaii was horrible because the resolution of the background map was poor. If I moved out to the 200+ nm range, it was okay, but my trips are about 50nm between islands, at which point the islands look like square blobs and it was tough to tell what island I was looking at or where I was - certainly of no use as a GPS unit.
Came with XM weather, which I bought it for, which I later find out when trying to subscribe that Hawaii is not covered.
Blocked the DG in the 172 when yoke mounted.

My "no" recommendation is for Hawaii use.
