All new version! Dual disc-DVD and Audio CD
The radio is often a source of anxiety among pilots, but doesn’t have to be. This informative program from Sporty’s can help you sound like a pro. Ride along on three real-world flights in a Piper Pacer, a glass-panel Cirrus and a Cessna 210 to see the range of communications skills required for flight in every type of VFR airspace. We’ll visit a variety of airports, from rural non-towered fields to busy Class B airspace at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (KCVG). You’ll learn to communicate smoothly and efficiently with tower, approach control, clearance delivery, flight service stations and more. VFR Communications will help improve your confidence flying in and out of busy airspace and will teach you to operate safely in all airspace. Dual disc (DVD video on one side, audio CD on the other) allows you to listen to the entire program in your car, or watch it on a TV or computer.
Outside the United States? - Sporty's® DVDs have all DVD regions enabled and play on almost all DVD players (NTSC or PAL); consult your owner's manual for more information. Closed Captioning not functional on PAL DVD players.
Attention International Students!
Sporty's VFR Communications DVD has printed subtitles or captions (sometimes called under-titles). These captions are very useful for students whose first language is not English, as many students more effectively assimilate new material when it's presented in both verbal and written form. Great pairing with AOPA Air Safety Foundation's on-line "Say it Right" and Towered/Non-Towered Operations courses. Puts dialogue into context of phases of flight and is filled with extra information.

Provides real recording of ATC interaction.
Cons
Leaves more questions than it answers. Doesn't really teach anything about communications. Doesn't cover many communications scenarios.
General Comments
I felt this DVD provided little or no value to my training. There are competing products that are much better. This was an exception to the usually good What You Should Know DVD series.

Gives a good example of VFR in three different flight environments that cover pilot controlled, class B and class C airspace. Use real world examples of what a pilot could expect in each example. Good learning tool.

Presentation was excellent, covering three different VFR situations.
I got this CD to refresh myself. I am not a pilot; I lost my medical years ago when I suffered a heart attack shortly after soloing in a 152, but I have never lost my love of flying. I keep hoping that someday ... someday, I'll get another chance.

Pros
The product was very well rounded in depicting many of the various scenarios in everyday flight activities. I am coming off a twenty (or so) year hiatus and it was refreshing to learn that, as the Cowboy Poet says "It aint changed all that much!".
Cons
I played both the DVD side and the CD side finding that both have the same audio. That's OK but on the audio only side, the taxi instructions are much more difficult to follow without the airport signage in view. Maybe some parenthetical comments included would clear it up some more for the less experienced pilot.
General Comments
I flew for about eleven years from 1976 through 1988 as a private pilot single engine land operator just for pleasure and gave it up due to expense. I am now working on getting my license current so as to do much more flying in my retirement years. I purchased the product to get a refresher on proper radio communications.
Overall a good product!

Pros

Cons
Wasn't what I needed. I wanted an audio like the casette tape you used to sell, that let you listen to numerous controller/pilot communications. This allowed for the development of good phraseology. Can't listen to this one in the car or on my ipod.

The communications covered were a sampling of three types of flights and aircraft. I was expecting a bit more depth on all types VFR communications and a more comprehensive do's and dont's type instruction.
