A little pricey, could have bought it for about $15 cheaper locally, but went ahead and bought it anyway because I didn't have time to make a trip to the nearest pilot shop.

What can you say about a battery
Cons
Wish they lasted longer. They seem to prefer being charged before storage. If the Gps unit is run from aircraft power,I don't believe the battery is charged adequately. The Gps should be removed from the aircraft and returned home for an overnight charge before storage.

I am aware that ALL batteries eventuall fail to take or keep a charge. But I would have expected that the original Garmin battery would have lasted longer than it did. It's only a year or so old and shot. The replacement batteries are expensive as well.

General Comments
The answers to 1, 2, and 3 will require some extended use. I have faith that the batteries will function well.
The original battery with the unit was only charging to about 1/2 capacity. I did not realize this until I charged and used the new battery, which showed a fully charged graphic and indicated 8 hours of life. I called Garmin to inquire about the difference. They indicated that the problem was that the original battery was not communicating with the unit and I needed to download the newer 3.5 operating system, which would fix the problem. Once that was done, they indicated that if I deep cycled the original battery, it would fully charge. I did and it does. They also noted the the new battery would eventually suffer the same fate as the original on the old 3.2 operating system.
So the purchase was beneficial in several ways: I learned something about the operating system needs and I have a back up battery that will enable me to use the XM. My original battery has improved performance. My J3C has no electrical system, so the back up and understanding how long the battery will last is important.
By the way, when deep cycling the original battery, it lasted everal hours beyond the low battery warning. Also good to know.
