Pros
The size of the gps is very nice. Its fit and finish is great. The screen is not cluttered at all with the information and the data is very well laid out in most views.
Comes with cig adapter and carrying case.
Excellent driving GPS unit, best i've used.
Cons
The battery life is terrible. The unit uses a cell phone battery (standard battery that ships) and provides about an hour and a half of life. The high capacity battery gives 3 hours.
The yoke mount that accompanied my unit does not have enough tightness to keep the gps from wobbling in the mount. I have to use the suctioncup mount on the side glass of the Skyhawk. Very dissapointed with the yoke mount.
As with any gps units, portable or panel mount its going to be difficult to make any adjustments onscreen when in bumpy conditions so don't get the idea that this model with the touch screen is any better than a garmin in those conditions. They all have their cons in this department.
The online updating of this unit is cheesy. It requires you to run a Java applet via windows internet explorer to upload. The honeywell website interface is buggy on authentication and after you authenticate and it supplies your temporary cookie you have to open a new browser window and perform the update. This was not documented but I found it to be my problem in not being able to upload to the unit from IE8.
It would have been nice if all the connection interfaces were on one side of the unit to make semi permanant installations or even the temporary wiring installations more attracive and less cumbersome. The DC plug is on one side and the audio connections and other interfaces are on the other.
General Comments
Overall i like this unit for the price. There are things that I would have done differently had I been on the design team but that could be said about any product. I purchased this unit because i did not need to have weather right away but will down the road. I did not want to pay the Garmin premium for VFR flying at this time. My biggest complaint is the battery life. I've overcome that obstacle with a gel cell battery with a female cigarette lighter socket and use the supplied cig adapter to power the unit. In some of the FBO's planes that I fly the ship lighter power is disconnected because of some AD so you cannot use the ones on the plane. Its difficult to swap out batteries inflight so having a larger external battery is the way to go.

Pros
May be used in the plane or in the car ("Go Fly" / "Go Drive" modes). Good customer-service. Easy to update via online downloads with USB cable (included). Large, easy to read touch-screen. Has many features found on much more expensive units. In most instances, the external antenna (included) is not needed.
Excellent value.
Cons
Update not currently available for "Go Drive" database. BendixKing states one should be available within six months. Some newer U.S. residential addresses not yet listed in database.
General Comments
In my opinion, BendixKing's AV80R GPS is the best bang-for-the-buck on the market today.

Pros
The biggest "Pro" has to be price. Also, there is the option to add weather at a later time if desired. I liked the fact that the product had bluetooth capability for connectivity to peripherals (like a cell phone or XM satellite receiver or Lightspeed headset). I also appreciated the different presentation for using the unit as a vehicle based GPS unit which makes it more automobile friendly for seemless transition from cockpit to rental car or FBO crew car. Theoretically, you can also add music and video as well as e-books which makes for a very versatile, full featured unit.
Cons
Although the unit has a pretty simple and intuitive interface, I found it took a lot of time and trial and error to get it set up the way I wanted. It wasn't difficult, just extremely time consuming.
The touch based screen interface is very finicky and can be frustrating at times even when the target is clearly tapped. When you are trying to select a point on the screen that may be smaller in size, and actually moving on the screen, the frustration may not be worth the effort. I would like it to be just a bit brighter for use in direct sunlight (outside of the cockpit), but this was not a a big deal and no worse than the other GPS units I've seen.
Finally, I was very much looking forward to adding some music (to listen to via a bluetooth connection with my Lightspeed headset) since I could plug the AV8OR into the plane's power supply and save battery life on my MP3 player, but I was never able to get it to work out after a couple of hours of reading the manual, updating the firmware, and trying various sources for music files. I suppose if I quit my day job and devote myself to it full time, with the assistance of tech support, it may someday work out, but for now it is a wasted feature as I just gave up and used my iPod instead. What a shame.
General Comments
Overall, it is a great value for the money and I have no problems recommending it to anybody who wants a compact, color screen GPS unit with weather capability at a good price that is equally at home in the car or the cockpit. Just don't throw away your iPod.

Incredibly easy to operate right out of the box. The price is right and then some for what you get. Very compact and I don't need 30 wires in the cockpit as the external antenna hasn't been needed.
Cons
Battery life is short as advertised but I always have it plugged in anyway. If I lost power the battery is adequate to get to an airport.
General Comments
A great value not just because of the price but for the ease of use and function. Very glad I bought this unit vs shelling out 3 grand.

Easy to use. Combination of in the air and on the ground avigation. Perfect for travelling and renting at the destination, e.g. coming to the US, rent a car and having your own navigation device, then renting an airplane and also having the GPS that you are familiar with. Going to other continents, simply exchange the database.SD-Card and you are all set - great!
Cons
Battery life is rather short compared to modern cell-phones but good compared to old 195 GPS

Dual mapping definately a big plus. Once you get the hang of using the scrolling/page feature you can for the most part, find any information you might be looking for, you just have to know where to find it....
Comes with all yoke and suction cup mounts, both work great! Easy to see the large screen, you can use your finger tip to scroll but the stylus really works better..
Cons
300 page users manual, on CD, is DEFINATELY not handy in the cockpit, you might need to fly right seat for about 5 hours figuring out how to find everything you need to know about the gps so that you don't present a hazard to other aviators..
Make sure you have a cigarette lighter recepticle because the standard battery is going to give up the ghost after about an hour and fifteen minutes
General Comments
Overall I 'm very pleased with my purchase. For the features versus dollars, when compared to other portables (Garmin), you just can't beat the value. Even with an additional cost for the XM weather, it is still much less expensive than the nearest competitor...

I just used the AV8OR for the first time on a short cross country flight. The product is very solid and full featured. It is very easy to use, the display is beautiful, and the interface and functions are well laid out. The touch screen is easy to use and gives nice audible "click" when you touch it. It comes with both a yoke mount and suction mount, and it quickly mounted to the yoke of the Warrior.
Cons
There are a few minor Cons so far. For one, the recharging port is "touchy". If you simply push the recharger all the way in, the unit won't charge. I needed to back the connector out a fraction to get the unit to charge. I don't know if this will be common to all units or not. The other Con is the small battery that comes with it (1.5 hrs). I have the extended life battery on order.

Great unit. All the features I need and want and none that I don't at a price that is too good to be true. Compact but with a large viewing area and very simple and intuitive to operate I haven't had to open the instruction manual once. A great addition to my flight bag.
Cons
Short battery life, but this was known and expected when I purchased the unit. Simple solution for longer flights is to bring an extra battery or purchase the large 1600 battery.
