The Garmin 696 is heavy enough that it needs a good mount like the RAM mount which is supplied. I rate the mount as very good. Once the base for the ram mount is attached with its four screws the 696 will not fit into the case. The case is therefore useless. I returned my case for credit. A more useful case for the garmin 696 would allow room for the 696 with the RAM base attached and also allow room for the XM antenna and power cord.
General Comments
Try a camera case or pelican case depending on the need for protection and the space you have. The 696 is too expensive to transport without some kind of case to protect it.

Not large enough for any of the essentials. Actually very small for the things that you need for the 696. It was well made, and attractive but just does not do the job. Sent it back.
General Comments
If you are thinking of this case for the 696, don't waste your time. It is not large enough for the gps and the antennas or the parts that make up the yoke mount. Needs to be larger. Quality is great...just too small

Probably pretty useful if you have a quick-remove in-panel mount for your 696.
Cons
It's worthless if you have the yoke mount bracket installed on your 696 because it will no longer fit in this case. Unless you want to remove the yoke mount every time you remote the 696 from your plane (which requires removing 4 screws with a screwdriver) then don't buy this.
Also, be sure that you are aware that this case will hold nothing except the 696 itself (no place for cables or anything like that)

This product needs to clarify that it cannot be used with the yoke mount installed (and I assume most people will have it installed).
