An unmatched combination of comfort, noise reduction and clearer audio
The Bose Aviation Headset X has set the standard for business and general aviation headsets for years. It offers excellent full-spectrum noise reduction, but with far less clamping forcethan most conventional headsets. It is quiet, light, and comfortable. Period.

The new version of this headset maintains the same standard of quality, but with some major improvements:
  • AdaptiSense™ technology doubles the battery life--now up to 40 hours on just two AA batteries
  • Smart automatic shutoff senses when you've stopped using the headset, saving battery life
  • New ergonomic control module is 30% smaller and includes a real-time power status indicator
  • Redesigned boom mic offers increased durability and more precise placement

The Bose Aviation Headset X marks a departure from conventional thinking. Standard technology often achieves noise reduction by creating a tighter seal against your head using higher pressure. Or, larger earcups are used to hold more insulation–which only increases weight. Either way, comfort is sacrificed.

This stereo headset is engineered differently, to work as a system that improves both noise reduction and comfort. That’s because Bose’s proprietary TriPort™ headset technology is a breakthrough in active noise reduction. Significant advances in acoustic, electronic and ergonomic technologies are part of the Bose system design approach that helps make this headset so effective in reducing noise. In short, better active noise canceling technology allows for more comfortable headsets. You know the Bose name—it’s synonymous with audio quality. Take this reputation into the cockpit with the Aviation Headset X.

Battery powered headset uses two AA batteries (included) that lasts for approximately 40 hours of continuous operation. Includes deluxe carrying case and owner's manual. Five year warranty.

Features
:
  • Small Size gives you more room in the cockpit
  • Low weight (12 oz.) makes for the most comfortable headset around
  • Unique protein leather foam earseals provide a soft, consistent fit-even with glasses
  • Torsion spring creates a consistent fit without the "vise clamp" feeling
  • Over 95% intelligibility score at 115 db
  • Dual volume controls, stereo/mono switch and LED power status indicator

Pros
Lightweight, comfortable and product does what it says it does. Customer support is very good as they had to replace my chord/battery unit due to it going through batteries quickly.

Cons
Too pricey as most of the Bose products. Battery life was no where near where they claim. Contacted Bose and they sent a whole new battery/chord unit out to me. Unfortunately the problem still existed (too short of battery life) and no where near the 40 hours they claim. If I even got half of that I would be happy. I beleive I get about 3-4 hours per battery change. I found that several CFI's I know have the same issue. Can't Bose fix this problem or at least properly advertise this shortcoming?

General Comments
Overall a good product, but really too pricey for what you get. I will say I would recommend this product because the only real shortfall I see is the battery life.

Pros
Lightweight, small when folded up, makes you feel nice because it says "Bose", comfortable while wearing glasses.

Cons
Expensive for what you get, overrated, sometimes not a great seal around the ears, getting a little dated.

General Comments
I am a student helicopter pilot and on my most recent flight my instructor and I set down half way through the lesson, and swapped his Lightspeed Zulu for my Bose Aviation X. The instant I put on the Zulu i said "WOW!" It beats the Bose in every area for $50 less (helicopter model is more) except fort perhaps sound quality. I think maybe the Bose has better speakers, but it wasn't really noticeably to my instructor. The Zulu has a better seal around the ears, more room in the earcups and better ANR. I haven't used it on a long flight so I can't speak for fatigue, but the Zulu does seem to squeeze a little tighter on the head. I gave the instructor his Zulu back and we both agreed, for the same price or less, get the ZULU!!!

Light weight....Forgot I was even wearing the thing! Have used other headsets, and the Bose was obviously a step above right out of the box!

Cons
Kind of pricey.

General Comments
Pricey, yes, but for overall comfort, reliability, and clarity which in my opinion equates to safety, it's well worth it!

Pros
The Bose X is truly an excellent helicopter headset. Prior to this headset, I used a David Clark H10-60H noise attenuating headset (which I still love), but the Bose X ANC headset is truly the state of the art in terms of comfort and active noice canceling. With the ANC on, it does a great job of eliminating the background noise from the engine and rotor blades. I fly a Robinson R-44 most of the time, and occasionally R-22s as well.

Cons
Without the ANC on, my David Clark H10-60H is a better headset. That's probably to be expected. Just ensure that your Bose X is turned on and that you have good batteries, and then this comment is not a factor. The other Con is the price of this headset. My wife bought it for me as a gift. Had she not done that, I would not have purchased it myself. Bose should lower the price. They would sell more of these excellent headsets and more than makeup for the reduction in price. Great headset, but ridiculously priced, in my opinion.
