Air Band Scanner with AM/FM Radio and AVIATION INTERRUPT™

Sporty’s Air-Scan® Radio gives pilots and aviation buffs the best of both worlds. Now, with our exclusive Aviation Interrupt feature you can listen to a ballgame, talk-radio or music and never miss an exciting aviation transmission! What is Aviation Interrupt™? While listening to your favorite AM or FM station the Air-Scan VII silently scans up to 5 PRIORITY AVIATION channels for activity. When a signal is detected on any of these channels it INTERRUPTS the original AM or FM program and plays the aviation transmission. When the transmission ends, the SP-125 "returns you to your regularly scheduled program." What’s more, the frequency stored in memory channel #1 has priority over all other transmissions—even over the 4 other memory channels. Uses 4 AA batteries (not included).

Pros
This is a great piece of equipment for the aviation enthusiast. It is extremely easy to use and very straight-forward. I enjoy using this scanner whenever I go near an airport.

Cons
You have to be near an airport to pick up a clear signal. Also, the frequency range doesn't go low enough to pick up ATIS at the general aviation airport near my house.

General Comments
Overall, this product is great for aviation enthusiasts and anyone who is just getting interested in aviation.

Pros
Good sound quality, volume, and sensitivity. Seems rugged. Easy to listen to a single channel. NOT MADE IN CHINA!

Cons
A little tricky to operate, so I must refer to the manual a lot. It only scans five channels at most. The scanning method sounds like it is klunking through the channels with a lot of battery-draining effort. Have found the AM radio to be entirely unnecessary. Eats batteries quickly, so best used at home with an adapter. One of the crummy rubber knobs on the volume control slipped off and vanished very soon after purchase.

General Comments
It generally allows me to easily listen to the two nearby airport CTAF's which share a frequency. This is why I bought it.

Pros
This seems to get pretty good reception at times. I really enjoy listening to the air comm.

Cons
This product looks and feels cheap. The quality seems to be ok but a little extra money may be worth a more durable product. Also, inside my house I get horrible reception. I live right next to the airport and I expected to be able to listen while inside.

General Comments
If you are looking for an ok product for a beginner this is it. It does work, it just is not all that I expected.

Pros
I unpacked the Air Scan and after figuring out how to set the frequencies I turned it on entered the local airport unicom frequency and started listning to all the traffic. I'm seven miles from the local airport and had no reception problem.

Cons
I found programming the frequencies a bit difficult.

My JD125 receives better then my ICOM. I don't know why and the price for JD125 was about $150 cheaper. If you could just offer a radio with Uhf and VhF like you once did with the JD100 I would be a happy camper! thank you

Pros
Perfect for listening to ASOS or ATIS on the way to the airport to get a heads up before uncovering, untieing, and starting your plane.

Cons
In my opinion it's not good for much else. It doesn't recieve VOR/NAV. Function does not justify the price.

General Comments
I would recommend paying the few extra bucks for the Transceiver. Then you have a fully functional backup radio, not just a walkie without the talkie.
