Pros
I've flown with it a couple times now and it works as advertised. I understand that passive devices may not see all traffic , but the MRXA provides useful data in the cockpit, e.g. It was reassuring yesterday when ATC called traffic closing 1,000-ft below me and the unit confirmed their call. I never saw the other plane, but watched it converge and depart 1,000-ft below me on the unit. Very nice. I haven't had it long enough to give it a reliability rating. With regard to durability it will need to be treated with respect; especially the antenna connection. This is true of most avionics. I'm looking for hard shell case for my flight bag. Joe

Cons
None so far. It's what I expected.

Pros
Small and easy to fit in my flight bag. Display is easy to read, and warning beeps are loud enough to hear in the cockpit. Easy to use and set different ranges for warnings. Works as advertised picking up many planes I would not have seen on my own.

Cons
Rubber "feet" only kept the unit still for me near the center of the glare shield, which is closer than the recommended 2' from the magnetic compass. The curve of the glare shield near the edge of the cockpit was too large for the rubber feet to work. First unit did not work and I had to return it.

General Comments
The first unit I received worked for about 10 minutes and then stopped picking up anything. I knew it was not working when I returned to my home airport and it did not pick up any of the other planes in the traffic pattern. Sporty's swapped out the unit with no hassle, and the second one works great. I flew with it the first time this weekend over a 50 NM course and there was rarely a time that it was not picking up other aircraft. I do wish it had an indicator to tell you which direction to look for the aircraft, but the next higher model does that. The unit had me scanning for planes it could detect that were still outside of my visual range. I definitely saw planes, though not a threat, that I would not have seen otherwise. I did not rate durability or reliability since I've only had the unit a couple of weeks and flown with it once.

Pros
Works easily out of the box with no complicated setup. It is small and doesn't take up a lot of cockpit area. Has connections for headsets, so the alarm is audible in the noisiest of environments. Passengers enjoy watching it in action and looking for traffic when it alerts, which increases the safety value of it.

Cons
The display is unreadable in direct sunlight, however it can be mounted in the panel with included wiring and antenna. The unit tells you when another aircraft is in your area, but doesn't tell you the direction, or where the aircraft is.

General Comments
For the money, this is a great piece of equipment to have in the cockpit. A quick glance tells you when something is in your airspace, and you can start looking for traffic.

Pros
Very easy to set up and use, and also seemed very accurate in giving altitude and range of nearby aircraft. I have TIS aboard my aircraft, and the Zaon was almost always in sync with the TIS readout.

Cons
Not having direction is a negative, but you can quickly figure out if the target is approaching or receding, and scan to find the target.

General Comments
This product is well worth the money if you are concerned about traffic issues and do not have TIS or other traffic avoidance products in your aircraft. It pretty much works anywhere there is radar coverage and with any airplane with a transponder.

Pros
Alerts to transponder traffic and is pretty accurate.

Cons
Battery life is short and alert could be louder. MRX comes with an inline headset adapter but I think an intercom plug would be better.

General Comments
I was skeptical in purchasing this and already on 1 flight it has spotted aircraft that I couldn't see and also was very close to ATC traffic reports. As a student pilot, I feel safer flying with it.

Pros
Increases situational awareness significantly. Easy to use. Well worth the cost. Includes an audio feed cable for your headset... but you don't need it. It's easy to hear without it even with ANR headsets. It comes with a power cord... but again, you don't need it. The battery life is plenty long enough for a normal days flying.

Cons
The plastic case seems very sturdy, but the halves don't fit well together over the front panel. It's not really even very noticeable... just nit picking. Also, getting the batteries out is a bit of a challenge. I use the corner of the battery compartment door to pry them out. It works well.

General Comments
Flying with it is now a personal minimum.

Pros
Small and Light Weight - Easily portable from aircraft to Aircraft. Easy to Use - even if you just scan the user manual, anyone with the slightest tech savvy can figure it out in minutes, it's very basic for the amount of tech it involves. Battery powered - No dealing with cumbersome wires for cigarette adapters (though one is included)

Cons
No Bearing Information - Range and Altitude only, this makes it sort of a guessing game as to where to look. Battery Powered - make sure you carry some good spare AA batteries with you in case you need them. Not really a con, but due to understandable system limitations, it cant pick up aircraft that are non-transponder or transponder off, so dont expect it to show every single aircraft out there.

General Comments
As a CFI at a small but busy airport, I'm in and out of various airplanes for several hours every single day. No traffic avoidance device out there from GA level to Airline level is a substitute for pilot's eyes and vigilance in scanning for traffic... but it is great to have a PCAS aboard to help with situational awareness. If the MRX device saves it's owner from ONE mid-air collision... it has paid for itself a million times over. The first thing i learned from the MRX... is that its amazing how many airplanes out there you never see or never would have seen! Unfortunately i have not had a chance to use it in an area of high traffic density like Dallas or Houston yet, but so far in only a few days of owning an MRX, it has pointed out about half a dozen aircraft that i would have likely NEVER seen. Its easy to use, you dont have to constantly fidget with it, it is highly portable, and for someone like me who climbs into and out of a hand full of different planes every day... i would consider this an essential piece of equipment. it's like having a friend in the back seat with "spider sense" that every once in a while he says "hey... there is an airplane pretty close by, better increase your traffic scan." some might think it would contribute to pilot complacency, to the contrary, it has made me MORE vigilant in my traffic scan because im actually a little excited to see traffic visually now and compare it to the indication on the MRX while trying to estimate how accurate the device is. - and let me assure you, for the money, it appears to be VERY accurate by my visual estimation of range and altitude of detected aircraft. If you're thinking about buying an MRX... stop thinking, and click "Add to Cart" right this second... In the entire span of my aviation career i would rate this as one of the very best general aviation purchases i have ever made.

Pros
very easy to use. I am a student pilot and when used it on my third lesson, my instructor told me that it could not detect aircrafts with no transponders. I replied that I knew that, but I wanted to have a pair of extra "eyeballs" anyway to help us with the traffic. And while I have the responsibility to see and avoid, I feel more comfortable with it, because it helps to see aircrafts that we can see only later. And my instructor liked it and told me that it was pretty accurate. So now I always fly with it. I would love to have buyed it at a lower price, but I think of it as an insurance and for the extra security that brings it is worth the money paid.

Cons
It seem to work sometimes, other times it will miss an aircraft that I can actually see. The unrelible nature of this product make me nervious. That may be a good thing, but its not doing what I bought it for. This was my second one and it acted just like the first. I think it misses about half of the aircraft.

General Comments
I really wish this was more reliable. I thought about buying the more expensive one but if it functions the same way I wouldn't feel good about it in the cockpit.

Pros
Used on a recent X-Ctry over 312 NM from Virginia to New Jersey and it worked as advertised. Can't beat the price for benefit.

Cons
Remember it cannot detect aircraft without a transponder and may not detect those with one based on certain attitudes or if they have a dirty Transponder antenna. Gave it 4/5 because it had some trouble detecting my Transponder code a few times but picked it up after a while. I understand Tech support can help with settings if this persists.

Pros
Works great! When sightseeing in Hawaii, hearing nearby traffic and trying to find them is nerve wracking. Some areas are heavily traveled such as the north shore of Molokai, which has no radar coverage, so it's all radios and looking. However, with the Zaon, it's so much better to know how far away traffic is. I had no idea so much traffic was around. I used to just fly along thinking I was the only one in an area. The altitude function did not seem accurate for some traffic. I worried about the lack of ability to know the location of the traffic since the more expensive model would tell you the quadrant. However, as I used this product, I realized that all I needed to know was if it was closing on me, which means it was in front of me. If the distance remained constant, then I was following it or it was following me, certainly no threat. If the distance was increasing, then it was going away. The headset function was not necessary as the flashing alert while on the top of the instrument brow will catch your attention easily. My unit was okay in construction, unlike the other reviews I read. Battery door was fine.
