The On-Top IFR simulator provides pilots with the opportunity to refine decision-making, risk management, and judgment skills before putting them to the test in real flight. Version 9.5 is fully updated to reflect today’s Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) with the inclusion of a Garmin™ G1000-style glass cockpit primary flight display (PFD) in the Cessna 182. A Garmin 430 GPS is now available in the Cessna 172, Mooney, Bonanza and Baron aircraft.
Features:
• On Top includes an accurate rendering of ten aircraft — Cessna 172 Skyhawk, Cessna 182 Skylane, Cessna 182R Skylane RG, Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II, Piper PA-28R-201 Arrow IV, Lancair Columbia 300, Mooney MSE, Beech Bonanza V-35, Beech Baron 58 Twin, Beech 1900 Twin Turboprop.
• Each aircraft has panel options — pilots can choose an HI or HSI, an ADF or RMI, add a moving map or GPS, an attitude indicator or flight director. Fly a conventional 6-pack cockpit or a glass-cockpit featuring a G1000-like PFD.
• Fly any approach in the world with the worldwide database. View the approach plate with a click of a button using FlightPrep's PlateView program.
• Simulate truly realistic flights by programming the weather to suit your needs. Set up conditions that replicate the forecast for your next flight; set up the weather to improve, deteriorate, or change randomly to add unpredictable turbulence, ceilings, clouds, and winds.
• Set instrument and equipment malfunctions to fail predictably or randomly to maximize emergency procedures training.
• Flight information is recorded and mapped for every flight in overhead and profile views. Save and replay these flights for later evaluation, or re-fly portions of the flight under different conditions.
• Users can challenge themselves with hard IFR weather, systems malfunctions, and engine failures, while the venture outside the narrow channels of training days to get more out of their instrument ticket.

Pros
It is very simple, doesn't need a powerful computer to run.
Cons
there was only 2 problems I had with this simulator. First, it takes forever to turn the obs and heading bugs. you have to turn them one click at a time. Second, it doesn't intergrate ATC. I would like to be able to get ATC clearences and talk to Them.

Pros
GPS approach practice is possible.
Practice with a glass panel is possible.
Inclusion of approach plates is a nice feature.
Cons
The glass panel only is available in one aircraft choice. It would be nice to have it as an option for the other aircraft.
General Comments
I've been using OnTop for the past 4 years. I recently upgraded to version 9.5 because I wanted to add the functionality of the Garmin 430 and a glass panel to my practice opportunities.
I use OnTop to help keep me sharp with various intrument approaches. Before a cross country, I often use OnTop to fly one or more approaches at my destination airport -- it helps me be just that much sharper when I get there -- plus it's fun.

Pros
The software is easy to use and good for just keeping up with instrument approaches. Great for pilots who want a simple to use program.
Cons
The graphics are not nearly as good as the Microsoft Flight Sims.....but who has a powerful enough computer to run it at 100%....no one I have met.
General Comments
If you want a simple way to practice approaches without all the hassle of having a high-powered computer....this is it.

Pros
This is fantastic. Great refresher, and fantastic for trip prep.. flying the approach on the computer prior to the trip!
Cons
I really can't think of any... this is really a fun product.
General Comments
RTFM... I really should read the manual in more depth, but I thought I could configure and save a flight without reading the manual, but I guess I will have to pick up the manual and read!
Great product to keep me thinking.
