Our Electronic E6Bs are invaluable during flight training, and are approved for use on FAA exams. But these powerful Flight Computers are great for more than just student pilots. Their pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. Whether it’s pre-flight or in the cockpit, our compact E6Bs are a helpful companion for any pilot.
New functions!
Both Electronic E6Bs now include three new features, so they’re even more useful than ever. All three are great in the cockpit, whether you’re a student pilot or an ATP.
• Required Rate of Descent function is an invaluable VNAV tool. Enter current altitude and groundspeed, plus crossing altitude and your distance to the crossing fix and the E6B tells you your required rate of descent (in ft/min). You’ll make that crossing restriction every time!
• Top of Descent function tells you how far out (in miles) to start your descent. Tell the E6B your groundspeed and current altitude, plus desired altitude and descent rate and you’ll know just when to start a smooth descent.
• Specific Range function allows you to quickly find the most fuel-efficient cruising altitude. You can easily compare between two or three altitudes to determine whether the lower fuel burn at a higher altitude is worth the higher headwind. Great for conserving fuel or extending range.

Sporty's® Electronic E6B™ Flight Computer performs 23 aviation
functions and 14 aviation conversions. It's
pilot-friendly design makes quick work of any navigational, weight and balance, or fuel problem
and it also performs conventional arithmetic calculations. The conversion function lets you
go from nautical to statute, fahrenheit to celsius and 12 other common conversions at the touch of
a button. Operates on ordinary AAA batteries
(not included) and includes a soft-sided carrying case, pocket reference guide and instruction manual. Authorized for use during FAA, Canadian
and German exams.
Four arrow keys make selecting the proper function simple. The oversized, easy-to-read screen prompts you for the proper inputs as you work through a problem line by line. Information from previous computations is automatically retained for future
use—no need to retype old data into new problems.
Clock page permits simultaneous tracking of Zulu, Home and Local time zones. The advanced timer counts up or down and operates independently so you can perform other calculations while the timer is running. Upon reaching zero in the countdown mode, the timer begins flashing—a useful feature for missed approaches, switching tanks, etc. The display measures 2 1/8"w x 2 3/8"h and turns off automatically after four minutes of non-use, yet the clock and timer continue
to operate.
Includes a five-year warranty. Available
exclusively from Sporty's. Measures 3"w x 5 11/16"h x 1"d.

I am not the user of the E6B. I bought it for my husband. He's training to be a pilot. He mentioned he would like to have one, so I bought it. I can tell you this, he was thrilled when the package came. He uses it with ease.

Pros
Easy to use, lots of good functions, usable on FAA tests.
Cons
The durability is good but not as good as some inexpensive calculators, for example. My first unit was permanently broken in a flight bag (it just kind of got squashed hard and didn't work afterward). I liked it enough to get a replacement, but I treat the replacement much more delicately.
The ON/OFF button is too easy actuate and will keep the unit on (and run the batteries down) if almost anything is lightly pressing on it. Pack it very carefully or remove or disable the batteries to avoic accidental discharge. A hard case for the unit would prevent this problem with a modest increase in price.
General Comments
Good value, easy to use. Needs to be treated carefully to avoid damage and/or accidental battery discharge.

Pros
has been a big help in flight planning. My instructor was not real happy about using is in place of the e6b but he ended up liking it better as I got better at using it. I have used it since getting my license also. I did use it on my written test with no problem from the test people and it was very helpful.
Cons
My examiner was very nice and considerate but he did not approve of the unit during my flight test. I had to do the cross country calculations on a manual e6b, which did not prove to be too much of a problem. But be prepared in case you need the do it without electronics.
General Comments
a worthy addition to your flight bag.

Pros
Lots of functions.
Cons
Not intuitive. I will more closely read the operating manual since I've made the investment, but honestly, the idea was to get an EASIER E6B and what I got was an equally complicated, albeit electronic, version. There has to be something better. If I were looking ... I'd try something else.
General Comments
If I had to do this over, I wouldn't.

Pros
Smaller than the ASA CX2, which is a big plus in my book. Although it has fewer functions, they're a bit more intuitive than the ASA. Very easy to convert units of measure.
Cons
Both of these computers are hard to read, IMHO. The Sporty's main menu is in very small type, although it's more easily accessible. I also wish they had screens that would light up when desired.
General Comments
For flight planning I still use the E6B because it's quicker. In flight, now that GPS does so much for you, there's less need for most of the functions of these units, but I find the electronic calculators are very helpful measuring crosswind components and TAS. The Sporty's is my pick because it's smaller and much easier to fit on your lap (or in your pocket, on the dash, wherever).
