The only thing i can think of is it has two different ink colors and the light and laser light are nice to have on a writing utensil.

The light won't work sometimes for no reason, batteries are in correctly and shouldn't be dead since they are brand new from sporty's and then will randomly start working again. The laser light is already dim as if batteries are dying. This pen is not worth it if they are all this disfunctional...

Easy to use, nice to have the laser pointer for ground presentations. Flashlight works great for checking a hobbs/tach time at night or for applications where you need a small amount of light for a short time.
Cons
You need to get to know it a little bit, the pen will be either black or blue depending on which way you twist it. If you're picky about what color you put in your/students logbook, test it first.
General Comments
Make sure the batteries are installed correctly, if one of them gets in a little sideways instead of perfectly flat, the light/laser will be very weak. Don't expect to use the flashlight as your regular flashlight, it's no substitute; it is good for applications where you don't need much light.

Has a white LED flashlight that is a perfect light level for looking using in the cockpit when colors are critical. I use a red flashlight as much as I can, but sometimes you need to look at a map in color. The Laser is a nice addition as it quickly allows you to point something out with out having to reach all the way across the cockpit.

I am actually so pleased with this tool I bought one to keep at the office so I can make sure my original will always be in my flight bag. It's great for having a writing tool in meetings and be able to point out or illustrate things on the projector screen from the far side of the conference room. I find my self carrying it every where. One of my coworkers liked it so much they had me order them one. I have ordered a total of three so far.
