Pacing of the program is a little slow.

Condenses a lot of info you would probably figure out for yourself over the course of time (depending how often you fly) so you get maximum use for the unit immediately. Provides good tips on the specific unit, and some good general tips for GPS use.

An excellent OVERVIEW which Collins states several times in the video. You could watch this video then practice with the unit at your house and become competent very quickly.
Cons
The video alone in no way makes you anywhere competent and ready to fly with the unit unless you have Garmin expeience already. I wish they would stated OVERVIW some where in the title. "Flying the Garmin 396/496" sounds like you will be able to fly it after the video.

A sales tool, not an educational tool. Very disappointed with the DVD. Not the quality I expect from Sporty's. Slight references to the 496 were not anything that really helps.

The Jeppesen Garmin GPSMAP 496 Training software at least give more structure and information about the unit. At $70 it is a much more useful value than the $25 DVD.
It could be a lot more comprehensive, but at least it does help with the learning curve where the DVD is pure sales fluff.
I have a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology and wrote user manuals for Libgo Corp for eight years so I have a good handle on what is appropriate for an educational product.

Only 30 minutes. At the price of the 396/496, this should be thrown in for free. Watching it more than once would be a waste of time. It is a better marketing tool than a "how to" tool.
