| Sporty's Delivers 1,000th Backup Electric Attitude Indicator [printer friendly] |
Just over a year ago, Sporty's introduced a backup Electric Attitude Indicator at an exceptional value to bring a new level of safety to the cockpit. Aircraft owners have responded - 1,000 have been sold so far.
Even though pilots train to fly needle, ball and airspeed, numerous studies have proven that doing so in an emergency is a very different matter. The backup electric attitude indicator assures true system redundancy for your aircraft's vacuum system and the primary attitude indicator itself.
However it wasn't until the FAA issued an advisory circular that the path was cleared to market the instrument. FAA Advisory Circular (AC 91-75) allows and encourages the installation of a backup attitude indicator in place of the turn coordinator. In the FAA's words, "Substituting a second attitude indicator (with a power source independent from the primary attitude indicator) for the rate-of-turn indicator will provide an increased level of safety."
Sporty's Founder and Chairman Hal Shevers is such a believer in this Backup Attitude Indicator that he had one installed in all 11 of the company's IFR airplanes.
