Even with a lack of cooperation from the weatherman, Sporty’s 2009 Fly-In came off without a hitch. Fly-in traffic may have been down, but hundreds of Sporty’s customers streamed into Clermont County Airport on Saturday morning and enjoyed the day visiting with exhibitors, checking out airplanes and honing their flying skills with free seminars.
And speaking of free, Sporty’s customers were treated to 1000 hot dogs.
“When you think about it, our yearly Fly-In is simply an extension of a typical Saturday at Sporty’s,” said Sporty’s President Michael Wolf. “It’s a gathering of fellow pilots swapping stories and enjoying hot dogs.”
Several dozen exhibitors had displays where visitors could learn the details about the latest technology for general aviation. Four free hour-long seminars were offered, and a line up of new Cessna aircraft, including Cessna’s Mustang, were ready for inspection.
The highlight of the day was the announcement of the winner of Sporty’s 2009 Sweepstakes. Stephen Brenneke, an orthopedic surgeon from Portland, Oregon, was reached by telephone and told about his great good fortune.
Next year’s Fly-in is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2010, where Sporty’s 2010 Sweepstakes airplane will be awarded. Don’t you want to be on hand for the announcement so when your name is announced Michael Wolf can just hand you the keys?
