Sporty’s Offers First Training Program for Aspen Evolution [printer friendly]
Launched just three years ago, Aspen Evolution Primary Flight Displays and Multifunction Flight Displays make retrofit glass cockpits possible and now have been purchased by more than 2,000 aircraft owners worldwide. Although pilots have found the Aspen Evolution easy to use, no specific training video existed until now.
Flying the Aspen Evolution from Sporty's explores everything there is to know, from basic setup and menus to handy shortcuts and advanced functions. See the Primary Flight Display (PFD) in action, and learn how to customize the display. The viewer can also watch the photo-quality Multifunction Display (MFD) in action, with terrain, traffic and weather overlays. A full ILS approach to the Reno-Tahoe Airport is flown to show every feature of the PFD and MFD in real-world use, complete with knob twisting and button pushing.
This video goes beyond the buttons, though, to explain the details of the Aspen architecture. Pilots will learn about the built-in redundant systems, including the backup battery and GPS, and how the MFD can serve as a backup PFD.
This program also covers emergency and abnormal procedures to prepare the viewer for unlikely component failures. Pilots will come away from this video with a better understanding of all the functions of this powerful avionics system, and an appreciation for how much is done automatically.
“This DVD is ideal for a current Aspen owner as well as an aircraft owner who is considering a panel upgrade – or a pilot who is intrigued and wants to know more about flying the Aspen Evolution,” said Sporty’s Vice President Bret Koebbe.
With an introduction by former Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association President (and current Aspen board member) Phil Boyer, Flying the Aspen Evolution explains how the system fully integrates with existing aircraft avionics and GPS receivers.
Flying the Aspen Evolution is the first Sporty’s DVD to be formatted for wide-screen televisions (16 x 9 aspect ratio). Koebbe says, “It allows for better layout of training graphics and video presentation, taking advantage of technology that is becoming the norm in the homes of our customers.”
Flying the Aspen Evolution is available both in DVD format [D535A] and as a download [E535A] for $29.95 at sportys.com or by calling Sporty's at 1.800.SPORTYS. Sporty’s merchandise ordered by Wednesday, December 23, 2009, can be delivered in time for Christmas.
